Classes will be held face-to-face in a classroom setting.
If deemed necessary, classes could be delivered via Zoom or Teams.
Learner workbooks will be available in both print and digital form to make online delivery easier if it is preferred or needed. Some activities have also been provided as online forms, quizzes, or polls using Google Docs or Word Forms.
There are no prerequisites for learners in regard to literacy and numeracy skills; however, an initial LLN assessment will be used to measure the learners' entry-level literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy. In addition, learners will complete a digital literacy-specific self-assessment in the initial class. This course has been developed for learners who are working at an ACSF Level 2 or above.
This course acts as a platform to provide learners with the knowledge and confidence needed to use essential digital literacy skills to seek employment or further study in their chosen industry.
Pathways to employment in the learner’s chosen industry sector will be explored.
Topics Include:
- Using MS word App from Office 365 to format a resume
- MS outlook online to manage emails for job applications
- Convert a document file as a pdf file
- Understand the file types
- Keywords in job applications
- Understand the job application process
- Installing job search Apps to a smart device
- Uploading/ sharing files
- Understand the login and logout process/Account management for each App
- Video resume-making using online Apps
Learners will undertake tasks in their learner workbook, along with practical hands-on completion of tasks on personal computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
Learners will participate in whole class and small group discussions and activities to build their understanding of digital literacy and its benefits in relation to employment. These discussions can take place in person or online utilising tools such as ‘break out rooms’ to replicate face-to-face group work.
Learners will be asked to evaluate their own progress and learning techniques throughout the course.
Learners will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Learners will also be encouraged to keep their work samples and create a portfolio of work to reflect on as needed.
