five-day intensive HOsPitality Essentials Course

For the first time in 2023, we delivered a five-day intensive Hospitality Essentials course to Workforce Australia participants. The course was developed to help support the local Hospitality and Tourism sector which are experiencing skill shortages and to support jobseekers by providing them with skills, knowledge, and confidence. Funded by Workforce Australia through the Goulburn Murray Local Jobs program, it resulted in 25 students graduating from the course. We are now working with other surrounding areas to deliver a similar course.

Increasing opportunities, skills and choices for all...

I would highly recommend Yarrawonga Mulwala Community and Learning Centre for any of the courses they may have available.  Being in my mid 40s I was apprehensive to go back to studies again, however I was determined to get my Certificate IV in Disability.  The enrolment process was very simple.  Once inside the classroom the trainer was very helpful and made us feel comfortable.  The teaching strategies used was flexible, easy to follow and I enjoyed going to class.  He was excellent, and his practical examination component was the best I have ever experienced. Most training sessions are bland and sterile and are simply a step by step process of applying the information learned in the course.  He added all the noise and drama that would likely have to be dealt with.

Volunteering at YNH has kept me connected to community and set me on a path that I never imagined possible. Learning and sharing my skills in community programs led me to complete my Certificate IV in Disability and I am now casually employed with Women with Disabilities Victoria (WDV) as an Experts by Lived Experience, Health Officer, developing resources for women with disabilities. I still love volunteering at YNH and am excited to be part of their journey in becoming Yarrawonga Mulwala Community and Learning Centre.

The wonderful team at YMCLC run a very successful adult education system, where flexibility, support, care and respect are always given. I thought that my course of 18 months would be difficult, but the time flew by. They helped me get work placement, which in turn, lead into paid work. All of this was adapted so I could succeed in my course.

Our trainer was engaging throughout entire course with a great balance of theory and practical. All staff who attended provided excellent feedback. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Yarrawonga Mulwala Community and Learning Centre again for any future training needs.

Friday Open Door has changed my life. The group has taught me so much and allowed me to contribute by sharing my own skills. It’s made me feel like I belong in my community.
