Increasing opportunities, skills and choices for all...

I have been doing First Aid courses since 1979 and have never come away from a training course with so much new information or background information that makes the First Aid practice make sense. He was excellent, and his practical examination component was the best I have ever experienced. Most training sessions are bland and sterile and are simply a step by step process of applying the information learned in the course.  He added all the noise and drama that would likely have to be dealt with.

Volunteering at YNH has kept me connected to community and set me on a path that I never imagined possible. Learning and sharing my skills in community programs led me to complete my Certificate IV in Disability and I am now casually employed with Women with Disabilities Victoria (WDV) as an Experts by Lived Experience, Health Officer, developing resources for women with disabilities. I still love volunteering at YNH and am excited to be part of their journey in becoming Yarrawonga Mulwala Community and Learning Centre.

From the first day in the classroom, I loved being back in class at the age of 39 studying what I loved not what I was told to study like at high school! All the staff were amazing during the whole duration of my course. I highly recommend if you are thinking of studying to see what they have to offer. Even through COVID lockdowns when our class went to Zoom meetings, nothing was a problem. Big shout out to Trudi our teacher who always gave us a real-life answer to our questions. Also, to Sharron who always helps with any other problems we might have come across.

Our trainer was engaging throughout entire course with a great balance of theory and practical. All staff who attended provided excellent feedback. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Yarrawonga Mulwala Community and Learning Centre again for any future training needs.

Friday Open Door has changed my life. The group has taught me so much and allowed me to contribute by sharing my own skills. It’s made me feel like I belong in my community.
